En demi-finale, Gilis attend la gagnante d'un match entre deux Égyptiennes: la tête de série N.1 Fayrouz Aboelkheir (PSA 7) et Nadien Elhammamy (PSA 37).


Tine Gilis (PSA 9), la sœur cadette de Nele, a retiré sa participation à l'Open de Suède avant qu'il ne débute, en raison d'une blessure. Elle avait dû déclarer forfait avant son quart de finale au Qatar Classic, à la mi-septembre, et n'a pas encore repris la compétition depuis.
