Après quatre victoires en six duels dans la phase de groupes, Loyola, 34e au classement mondial, a battu 15-7 l'Allemand Fabian Herzberg (FIE 147) au premier tour du tableau éliminatoire. Une victoire 15-12 contre le Marocain Houssam Elkord (FIE 42) au second tour qualificatif lui a ouvert les portes du tableau principal où il rencontrera au premier tour le Hongrois David Nagy, 12e mondial.

Loyola est le seul Belge engagé dans l'épreuve masculine.
